Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but that’s no reason why it can’t be fun! Usually, breakfast fun means lots of sugary cereals, but Today’s Family believes in healthy eating, so here’s an easy (and fun) way to make your breakfast colourful, while also keeping the amount of sugar down:
Colourful Rainbow Pancakes
You will need
Pancake mix
Food colouring
A heated griddle or pan
Squeeze bottles (optional)
First off, make the pancake batter like you usually do. If you’re a pancake rookie, follow the instructions on the side of the box. But don’t cook it yet – this is where the colour comes in.
If you’re just using one colour, add some drops to the main bowl of batter. If you want to have a whole batch of colours, pour your batter into separate squeeze bottles and colour them separately.
Tip: you can buy your squeeze bottles, or you can save your old ketchup and mustard bottles. Not only are you saving money, you’re also saving the environment!
Pour (or squeeze) your colourful batter onto the heated pan or griddle. Wait to flip until you see bubbles forming on the top of your pancake, and you see the edges start to round out. Flip them once, cook the other side, and serve!
If you want to stay on the healthier side, consider swapping your maple syrup for some fresh fruit! Hopefully some locally-grown, in-season fruit.
