Today, we’ll be putting on our chef hats and stepping into the kitchen to create nutritious and delicious granola bars for families to share. Don’t be alarmed – there will be a mess – but there will also be lots of laughing and bonding to make up for it.
Ages: All ages
½ cup – semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 cups – Granola cereal – raisin & almond (or another granola depending on your family’s likes)
3 cups – mini marshmallows
½ cup – sweetened shredded coconut
¼ cup – unsalted butter
1. Line an 8-inch square glass baking dish with foil.
2. In a large bowl, stir together granola and coconut. Set aside.
3. In a saucepan, melt butter over low heat; stir in marshmallows until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in granola mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Using greased fingers or a spoon, pat mixture into prepared baking dish. Refrigerate for 1 hour, or until set.
4. Remove from pan. Cut into 16 bars.
5. Enjoy ☺
Why We Love It:
There are so many positive things to say about sharing any baking and cooking experience with your children. Not only are you teaching them new language with the variety of ingredients, but measuring develops math skills while focusing on the directions improves literacy. Children are also using their fine motor skills and teaching life skills, all while being able to spend time with you.
