Today’s Home Activity: How Many Ways
Ages: 5 and up
This is a fun activity that gets the creative juices flowing and encourages children to use their imaginations! This is a good activity for all ages, but we suggest your children be old enough to at least understand stories before trying this one out.
This is a good activity to do either during or after telling a story. It could be after reading a book or watching a movie or an episode of a television show, or you can make a story up and tell it to them the old-fashioned way. Ask your child to think of different ways the story could have ended: do they think there’s something else the hero could have done that would have made the story better? Or what could they have done to make things worse?
Come up with a lot of different “What if?” or “How could?” scenarios together, and then decide which ones are your favourites as a team. Staying involved in this process is great to show children that imagination isn’t a thing that just goes away when you get older. You can end the activity here, or work on writing or drawing the new and improved ending.
Why we love it: We are huge fans of anything that can get children more excited to think about information they are given. This thinking strategy is a great tool to have later in life, when they will by applying this same logic to other situations.
