Over the past two weeks, we’ve been talking about the Today’s Family Licensed Home Child Care Program, why licensing matters, and how to become a Licensed Home Child Care Provider through Today’s Family. Today, we want to revisit Licensed Home Child Care, and talk about why you might want to explore a career in Licensed Home Child Care for yourself.
Like any career, the path to becoming a Licensed Home Child Care provider is different for each person. One such path can lead through parenthood. Deciding what to do after welcoming a new life into your family can be a difficult one: do I stay home with my child? Can I afford to? What are my options?
At Today’s Family, we receive calls about becoming a Licensed Home Child Care Provider every day. Many are from new parents who see Home Child Care as a way to raise their children at home while also supplementing their income. Today, we would like to tell you about one such parent.
This story takes place in the growing town of Dunnville, on the banks of the Grand River in Haldimand County. We were contacted by a new mother about the possibility of becoming a Licensed Home Child Care Provider.
We met with her shortly thereafter, sending one of our Haldimand Home Visitors out to talk to her about her options, and to see if she would be a good fit for Today’s Family. Unsurprisingly, she was! We started the paperwork process immediately, with our Home Visitor guiding our new Provider through all of the forms she needed to complete in order to provide Licensed Home Child Care.
As soon as the paperwork was filed and approved, our new Provider was open for business. She could have sought out new families herself, but she didn’t need to; as a growing community, we regularly receive calls from families in Dunnville looking for child care options. Inquiries rolled in, and in two short months, this Provider was caring for four different families, with even more interested.
Our “Home Visitor” title is not just for show: our Home Visitors regularly visit our Licensed Home Child Care programs to make sure that they have everything they need to continue to offer the excellent care associated with Today’s Family. The scheduled visit for our new Provider was a few weeks ago, just after the surprise early snowfall. As the Home Visitor was getting close to the house, she could hear the children gleefully playing in the snow with the Provider’s dog, Drake, and with the Provider herself. Unfortunately, the Home Visitor couldn’t join in this time, but she did make a note to wear snow pants on her next visit!
Becoming a Licensed Home Child Care Provider can be an incredibly rewarding experience, no matter what reason you decide to become one. And Today’s Family will be with you every step of the way, facilitating paperwork, handling child care inquiries, and empowering you to run your own Licensed Child Care Program.
