At Today’s Family, we try to run programs suited for the family of today. That means offering a bevy of programs for every sort of family, from full day care, to before and after school care, drop in early childhood education centres, and more.
However, there is only so much that we can do, especially as more and more families start to look for childcare options. That is why Today’s Family also oversees many enterprising women and men who run Licensed Home Child Care Programs.
Today, we want to talk about some of these programs, and how you can become a Licensed Home Child Care provider. Next week, we’ll talk more about what is involved in our licensing process.
What is Licensed Home Child Care?
Many of Today’s Family’s programs are offered out of centres, schools, and other community-centric establishments. But these do not meet the needs for all of our families. That is why we also sponsor Licensed Home Child Care, where children are cared for by a single, otherwise independent childcare provider.
Parents may be more attracted to a Home Child Care provider because they feel that their child would benefit better in a smaller group setting, that they prefer the personal touch of a single childcare provider, for faith, cultural, or language-based reasons, or because centre-based programming is not available in their area.
Is the “Licensed” part important?
Very! The Government of Ontario has determined a list of rules and regulations that home child care providers must adhere to in order to legally provide care for children. These regulations are essential to making sure that the provider can create a safe, welcoming environment for all of their children. This includes routine house inspections, providing a healthy diet, and limiting the numbers of children in the program so that each child can be properly supervised.
Can I be a Home Child Care Provider?
The short answer is, yes! Today’s Family is looking to expand our Home Child Care services in Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, and Norfolk. If this sounds like an interesting opportunity for you, you can call us at 905-574-9344, Ext. 112 or e-mail [email protected].
