Last week, we started talking about Licensed Home Child Care through Today’s Family. It is such an important subject, we decided to break it into two chunks for you. This week, we will talk about why you might want to become a Licensed Home Child Care provider, as well as information about the licensing process.
Why should I become a Licensed Home Child Care Provider?
There are many reasons why people become Licensed Home Child Care providers. In fact, if you gathered a dozen of our providers in a room and asked them all that question, you would probably get a dozen different answers!
Some of our providers are attracted to Home Child Care because they have recently had children themselves. They see an opportunity to care for their own child while also not sacrificing a source of income by becoming a stay-at-home parent. Others see a need in their community, offering childcare services in particular languages. Some might be attracted to the flexible schedule that allows them to have a job while also juggling a busy schedule of their own. And even others prefer to be their own boss, rather than work in a traditional centre-based childcare environment.
What is involved in Licensing?
The Government of Ontario has laid out strict rules and regulations that all Licensed Home Child Care providers must adhere to. The first of these is to become licensed – to register your business and make sure that your home and programming are compliant with the safety and health standards of the government.
If that sounds a bit daunting, don’t worry! Today’s Family is here to help!
Prospective providers will be invited to a Today’s Family location for on-site workshops and training seminars, to make sure that you are aware of the requirements to become and continue to operate your Home Child Care program. These workshops will also give you important skills and training, so that you can offer the best programs that you can.
We will match you with a home visitor with a background in Early Childhood Education, who will offer you professional support, guidance, and resources. They will make sure that your home is compliant with all of the rules and regulations, making sure that your home is a safe environment for your children. And, if there is a problem, your home visitor will help you fix it before it becomes a bigger issue.
