Sometimes it seems like children grow so fast that you can actually see them getting taller before your very eyes! Even if your child is growing a bit slower than their fastest-sprouting peers, their growing bodies need a lot of energy. Snacks throughout the day are a great way to keep that energy up, and to provide a growing body with the vitamins that it needs.
Roasted chickpeas are a great – and easy – after-school or mid-afternoon snack: they are a great source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, all things a healthy body needs to grow big and strong. They are tasty, crunchy, and a favourite snack at our Today’s Family programs. Check out the recipe below:
Chickpeas don’t have strong or distinct flavour, which means you can easily season them to your child’s particular tastes. Our base recipe calls for oregano, salt, and pepper, but you can experiment with anything in your spice cupboard! Try a pinch of paprika for a bit of an extra kick! Or rosemary for an aromatic flavour that pairs nicely with the olive oil in the recipe.
This snack also serves as the base or addition to some of our favourite meals! Come back and visit our blog in two weeks to see how to integrate roasted chickpeas into a delectable, kid-approved dinnertime meal.
